Fallecimiento de Sergio Santander en Las Vizcachas
Las Vizcachas tuvo su tarde más mediática y triste el domingo 26 de septyiembre de 1987. Todo el país vio en TV cómo Sergio Santander Benavente -hijo del fallecido ex presidente del Comité Olímpico y entonces puntero de la categoría "Formula 3 nacional"- moría tras estrellarse con un muro de contención que dividía la recta principal de la zona de pit luego de enganchar su bólido con el vehículo de Gonzalo Alcalde en la recta principal de Las Viscachas. Alcalde salió sin mayores lesiones de ese accidente.
Este es el video de ese trágico instante que transmitió en vivo TVN para todo el país con el audio de Pedro Carcuro y de Michael Müller en los pits, zona donde ocurrió el accidente, el cual dura hasta que el helicóptero de Carabineros llevaba a Santander a la Posta Central, lugar donde falleció por las múltiples lesiones del accidente.

Nada, solo decir que fue una pena la muerte de Sergio Santander, vi este video hace un tiempo con mucha nostalgia lo recuerdo junto a nuestro team acá en los angeles, (Team Antonio), un amigo estuvo ahi en esa carera, era pequeño y vio todo lo sucedido.... que lata ese tipo de accidentes, pero cada piloto esta propenso a sufrirlo, desde acá un saludo enorme a los fanaticos del automovilismo.....y al piloto Santander que emprendio muy joven su última carrera......

bueno yo en ese tiempo tenia 11 años y estaba viendo las carreras junto a mi padre y recuerdo como si fuera hoy este terrible accidente los minutos parecian horas mientras sacaban a sergio de su auto fue un terrible accidente, partio muy joven a su ultima carrera pero se que debe estar descansando en en cielo q.e.p.d.
